How important do you deem social media to success in the real estate industry in this day and age?

The new breed of real estate agents need to understand the importance of social media. It’s the new way of self-promotion, brand awareness, an easy way for future sellers and buyers to see how you’re performing and to connect with you. These days clients will thoroughly research you online before they make the call for the appraisal, so having a strong social media presence is important.

What strategies do you employ to market yourself on social media?

I tend to post my active listings, new properties soon to hit the market, recent sales, open inspection times and any useful news articles that I feel would be beneficial to my followers. I also like to hold competition give-aways, which always receives a great response, is a great way of giving back to the community and a great way to interact with your followers.

What social media platforms do you use and why?

I would have say to Facebook is the number 1 social media platform that I use. With so many registered users, how can you not use it to self-promote and connect with your target audience.
I am also active on LinkedIn, Instagram and Rate my Agent.

Which demographics are you trying to target when promoting on social media?

Looking at the data that is available to you, I can aim my promotions to a whole range of specific age groups that I feel would be suited to the content. The main goal though is to post content that I feel would provide value to all my followers.

How does the effectiveness of social media marketing compare to other methods of reaching clients, such as physical advertisement and face-to-face encounters?

Meeting clients face to face will always be the best way to conduct business, however in this day and age, social media marketing is the next big thing for sure. Future sellers and buyers are now embracing technology to get to know you, trust you and to connect with you. The days of receiving a flyer or letter in the letterbox are slowly fading.
