National building construction company Built Environs has been awarded the contract to deliver the first stage of the West Franklin Development on behalf of developer Greaton.
In a press release, Built Environs announced it won the contract and would commence construction on the West Franklin Development located on the corner of Elizabeth and Franklin Streets.
The development will feature 272 residential apartments spread across two towers and 1,100 sqm of retail on the ground level.
In addition, there will be a range of resident facilities, including a 20-meter lap pool, a gym, a spa, a sauna, dining rooms, BBQ facilities, a cinema, a golf simulator and a roof top bar.
Nicho Teng, Managing Director of Greaton said:
“West Franklin is Greaton’s first major residential project in Australia.
“The company purchased the site from Adelaide City Council in 2014 and knew it had the potential to dramatically change Adelaide’s City West.
“Appointing the builder is a major milestone for the project. Greaton is pleased to partner with one of Adelaide’s reputable builders to build this significant development.”
On awarding the contract to Built Environs he added:
“Built Environs is committed to safety, innovation and best practice building principles, backed by a strong parent company – McConnell Dowell Group which made them an obvious choice to build West Franklin.”
The West Franklin-planned development is expected to create a new destination in Adelaide City’s West, and when completed will add a large retail area and 560 apartments to the city’s real estate.
According to The Urban Developer, the first stage of the contract is worth $90 million of the $300 million required to complete the project.
As one of the largest projects ever undertaken in the Adelaide CBD, the entire development is set to result in over 2,000 construction jobs, with over 70 subcontracting firms employed.
The 5,000 sqm site was previously the home of iconic South Australian bakery Balfours.
Construction is planned to begin in April, with stage one being completed by early 2019.
Although construction has yet to officially start, sales of the stage one apartments began in November of last year.
Greaton’s national sales manager Cameron Porter told The Advertiser that 150 of the 270 apartments had already sold for prices ranging from $319,000 to $1.445 million.
Built Environs has offices in Adelaide and Perth, and has been behind iconic projects such as the Western Grandstand at Adelaide Oval, SA Police Headquarter Building and the recently completed Terminal 1 Domestic Pier and International Departures Expansion at Perth Airport.
It looks like it’s going to be a busy few years for the company.
Last month, Built Environs also announced that it had won the contract to deliver the U2 on Waymouth project on behalf of developer Datong Australia.
That project will deliver 257 apartments to the heart of the Adelaide CBD and is scheduled to be completed by early 2019.
