Top agents profile – Carl Semmler

Attracting new business is the life blood for any business, in particular for real estate agents to ensure your agency stays profitable.

Sometimes this might be hard to accomplish and ideas on how to jump start your business can be tough to come by.

Luckily enough we have spoken to a number of the top selling agents from last financial year here in South Australia, and they have each given us their top three tips for attracting new business, while also telling us how they spend their working week.

What are your top three tips for attracting new business?

1. In a regional town service is the key and the best source of business is referral, which comes from word of mouth. That is why we focus on our customer service and standards in that area.

2. Setting goals and tracking them is crucial to our business. It is very easy to spin your wheels in this industry so that’s why we keep track of our performance in all areas.

3. Be very active in the community, whether it is socially, sporting clubs, charities or other local organisations. Building relationships is important to my business and also nurturing those relationships is something I focus on a lot.

What does your usual working week look like?

I have a quite structured week but the start of the week involves following up from the weekend’s work, open inspections and speaking to vendors.

The rest of the week I work on new business and speaking to buyers. I work with a number of developers who I spend a lot of time with, which is a great learning experience for me. I do most of my open inspections on Fridays and Saturdays, and that takes up a lot of those days.
