Attracting new business is the life blood for any business, in particular for real estate agents to ensure your agency stays profitable.
Sometimes this might be hard to accomplish and ideas on how to jump start your business can be tough to come by.
Luckily enough we have spoken to a number of the top selling agents from last financial year here in South Australia and they have each given us their top three tips for attracting new business while also telling us how they spend their working week

Top 3 Tips for attracting new business:
Door knocking! It doesn’t matter how long you have been in the business, door knocking is a key part to any Sales Agents role in keeping their face in the community. I have been in sales for 32 years and still make time to doorknock. I recently had the opportunity to appraise a $3+ million dollar property, just for taking the time to knock on the door, how good is that!
Word of mouth – There is no greater referral system than word of mouth. Having a tried and proven track record and having earnt my reputation after many years in the industry, keeping in contact with past and present clients as well as an active database is crucial.
The day doesn’t end when it hits 5pm. If you have a 9-5 mentality, then Sales is not for you! I work between 6-7 days per week and am often not home until after 9pm. You need to make yourself available for your clients and treat each and every one of them as if they are number one. Without them, you have no business. Going over and above helps earn that reputation where people just keep coming back year after year, and so do their family and friends. You have to be passionate about your job, and I LOVE what I do!
How I spend my working week:
My usual working week is hectic with a 6-7 working day week. The day usually starts with an early morning walk to get the blood pumping and clear my mindset to focus on the activities ahead for each and every day. No two days are the same in our industry, and as much as you think you might have your week planned out, there is always something that pops up requiring attention whether it be an appraisal or urgent building or bank inspection.
If you put in the effort you are rewarded fruitfully not just financially, but also knowing that you have done your best and creating happy moments for your vendors and purchasers. I am extremely lucky that I have a wonderfully energetic and passionate team behind me who are always willing to help if required.
All of this being said, it is important to try and have that work/family life balance. I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my beautiful family and cherish the time I get to spend with my 4 grandchildren. Some weeks it is hard to find the time, but somehow I always do and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
